TOWN & COUNTRY HOUSE

Architect: Milk Architecture & Design

Our clients could not believe their luck when they found this dilapidated parkside property at auction. The semi detached Victorian Villa had been used as council offices for many decades, all its original features had been removed and its character had become institutional. Despite this our clients could see that its location shrouded by trees and its timeless character made it unique in London.

We joined the project as construction started adding the care and detail required to create a warm family home. We helped to reinstate the original room layouts and proportions and then adapted them to the family and their routines, working with the logic of the existing house to simplify construction and minimise costs.

With the layouts in place we worked closely with our client to design elegant and robust interiors for a young family; reinstating appropriate Victorian detailing, using traditional craftsmen and adding a contrasting contemporary layer that relied on quality of light and materials. The result is a warm and welcoming home awash with green light from the trees and buzzing with playful laughter.
